SHOWTIME

Showtime is like a little 90-minute vacation, visiting a place you may have been once before. You get to see things you haven’t seen in awhile. You get to laugh at the interesting people you meet, and there are just enough mishaps to make the trip memorable. But 90 minutes isn’t really enough time to see all the good sights. You can end up on the wrong tour, and miss the things you should have seen.

This film was fun. I felt like I used to feel sitting in the theater, watching old live action Disney flicks. Full of popcorn and soda, just happy to be somewhere else. DeNiro and Murphy are just odd-coupled enough to make the movie consistently entertaining. The things that bothered me: I never really got the understanding that their show was on the air. The extras in the film were fans of the TV show before I was allowed to be one. Our Heroes find where the munitions are being made and end up foiling a bank robbery. How did they know were to go? Chasing down a murdering bank robber with illegal weapons, driving a dump truck at high speeds and catching them, is not a reason for being fired; it’s medal time. And the ending became a little clunky; it was like the editor stepped out and the craft service person finished editing the film.

All in all a good vacation, but I wished my tour guide had been better trained.
