Another buddy movie. This one is a cop buddy movie and whats so different about that?
Robet de Niro and Eddie Murphy together
.thats what and you know
? It works. It works so well that while the two are on screen I can forget about everything else except for the white trash couple behind me who insisted on talking almost THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE MOVIE WHAT IS UP WITH PEOPLE
.but that's another story.
The movie had a strong opening with de Niro doing a monologue in front of first graders that was very funny (red wire/blue wire dilemma) There are a lot of inside jokes in this one (Hollywood making fun of Hollywood ) but it has enough humor left to keep everybody laughing.
I found Rene Russos acting a bit stale and formulaic. I usually like her but felt she was just warming up some previously used performance. William Shatner was William Shatner, what can I say. You either love him or hate him. I happen to love him, so there you go.
I sort of liked that there wasnt a romantic side story in the movie, Rene Russos body wasnt wasted on anyone and the movie really concentrated on the two lead characters.
My favorite bits were Eddie miming in the car, the scenes form the confession booth and Powder and de Niro hanging out on the couch. But the movie is filled with little humorous spots throughout and the finale is one of those great big ones that Hollywood does so well. I was really impressed. The villain is a good one, eastern European filling in this time for the standard German bad guy and he does a good job. (The scene about his accent is hilarious)
Go see this one if you like Eddie Murphy and Robert de Niro. But you can also easily wait for the DVD release and save some bucks and at least youll know no one will be talking during the movie at your house.
