The Salton Sea

The Salton Sea is a classic film noir drama set in modern times. Simply put, the movie works. But let me warn you, this flick is not for the faint of heart. Its drug induced heroes and truly frightful villains (especially Vincent D’Onfornio, who plays Pooh Baer, I will leave you to find out what the name stands for) make your skin crawl.

Val Kilmer is superb as the lone anti hero who walks the path of death while desperately clinging to the meager side of life. As he seeks revenge to justify a horrible wrong that was inflicted upon him and his beloved wife he learns what ultimately is a film noir mantra: Every action has a consequence.

The film is riveting, moves along at a solid pace and is full of original bits. Yes, it has elements of "Pulp Fiction" but I don’t see it a s rip-off rather a smart way of using it "their way" to lighten up the picture. The movie needs it.

All the supporting actors do a fine job. I don’t like Debra Unger Kerr, never have, but still…nothing wrong with her acting.

The movie is heart breaking and heartwarming at the same time. Much like life. A must see for die hard noir fans.
